Beating the Dragon in Swansea

On Saturday 6th June 2026, Coal Harbour was once again proud to support the Fire Fighters Charity as we headed to Swansea to take on the Welsh Firefighter Challenge — a gruelling test of fitness, grit, and determination that pushes competitors to their absolute limits.

Following our silver finish at the Southwest Firefighter Challenge in May, the bar was set high, and we rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion.

No Medals — But Something Even More Special

While the podium wasn't ours on this occasion, we achieved something truly remarkable: we were fast enough to 'Beat the Dragon', earning a coveted place in the elite club of those considered best in class at the Welsh Firefighter Challenge.

The 'Beat the Dragon' status is awarded only to those who complete the challenge within a demanding time threshold, recognising exceptional speed, strength, and stamina. It's a mark of excellence in the firefighting community, and we couldn't be prouder for achieving it.

A Brilliant Day of Physical Challenges

The Welsh Firefighter Challenge is a fantastic event that brings together firefighters from across the UK and beyond for a day of intense physical competition. From sprints and hose drags to barrel carries and the demanding dummy drag, all in full firefighting kit and breathing apparatus — every event is designed to replicate the real demands of the job.

We gave everything we had, and the atmosphere in Swansea was electric. Events like this are a brilliant reminder of the incredible dedication and physical commitment of firefighters across the UK.

Why We Keep Showing Up

At Coal Harbour, our connection to the fire service is personal. We serve as On-Call Firefighters in the local community, balancing the role here with the extraordinary responsibility of protecting lives. Supporting the Fire Fighters Charity through events like this is something we're deeply committed to.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides vital support to serving and retired firefighters and their families — from mental health services to physical rehabilitation and financial assistance. Every challenge completed, every second shaved off the clock, helps raise awareness and funds for this incredible cause.
