🍵 The Colour — A rich, warm amber cup with a beautifully lifted floral aroma that fills the room from the first pour

🍵 The Character — Smooth and gently sweet, with a refined rose fragrance that enhances rather than overpowers the depth of the black tea base

Queen Mary's Rose Garden is one of London's most beloved landmarks — a garden of over 12,000 roses set within the inner circle of Regent's Park, completed in 1934 and named in honour of the wife of King George V. This loose leaf black tea takes its name and its spirit from that extraordinary place, capturing the fragrance of an English rose garden in every cup.

The foundation is a smooth, well-rounded black tea with a naturally warm character — full enough to carry the floral notes with confidence, yet refined enough not to overwhelm them. Rose petals are blended through to add a softly sweet, gently perfumed quality that lifts the cup without tipping into excess. The result is an infusion that is at once comforting and quietly elegant, with the kind of lingering floral finish that stays with you long after the cup is empty.

Rose has a long and distinguished history in tea. The combination was first enjoyed in China, where rose-scented teas were prized for centuries, before finding a natural home in Britain as a staple of garden parties and afternoon gatherings. In the Victorian era, the practice of promenading through rose gardens in one's finest clothes was a social ritual — and this tea carries a little of that graceful, unhurried spirit. It suits the afternoon particularly well, though it is equally rewarding on a winter morning when the thought of a garden in bloom is exactly what is needed.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists, with one of the largest collections of teas and infusions in the country — over 350 in all. Queen Mary's Rose Garden sits among that collection as a tea that is both deeply familiar and quietly distinctive: a floral black tea with genuine character and a sense of place.

Ingredients: Black tea, rose petals.

Brewing Note: Use water just off the boil — around 95°C — and steep for three to four minutes depending on how you like your cup. A shorter steep keeps the floral notes bright and delicate; a little longer brings out more depth from the black tea base. This tea is lovely without milk, which lets the rose come through clearly, though it also holds up well with a small amount if that is your preference. Brewed slightly stronger, it makes a very good iced tea — pour over ice and allow the floral notes to cool into something altogether refreshing.
